Troubleshooting / Nodes launched under windows 10 not visible in admin-ui - but are active

Firstly - thanks for this great framework - been spending my Christmas break playing with it and having great fun!

The issue I'm trying to resolve is that I am seeing that there are nodes that are being launched from windows that are not visible in the admin-ui - but are nonetheless being use when i launch a calculation.

I've got 3 raspberry pi cards and a Windows 10 laptop.  On the first of the raspberrypi-00 i run the driver and on raspberrypi-01 and -02 i am running one node each.  I'm using the n-body sample program - I'm launching the client from windows using ant run. 

I've modified the config file to have a lot of bodies (25000) and to use 125 bodies per task so that there are 200 tasks per job.   I reduced the number of time steps to 10 so that i get a nice round number of 2000 jobs total to run to make it easy to check that all tasks have run in the end.

When i run client like this i always see it finish with 2000 tasks completed and it takes around 2 minutes to complete.

However, i then launch some nodes from the windows machine.  They report connection success (see below).  But when i look at admin-ui it still shows only 2 nodes connected.  But when i run the client again (after resetting task counts and server statistics on admin-ui) it completes in less time and the number of tasks executed are less than 2000 - the "invisible" nodes are being used.....

I initially had trouble getting the nodes to connect when using discovery, so it set it to false and then claimed to connect, but admin-ui is failing to see them although they are part of the network.  I've atteched the jppf-gui.properties and the jppf-node.properties.

Again, greatly enjoying using the tool but am just wondering if i'm misconfiguring something here or if i've maybe uncovered a bug.

Hello Laurent, jnh1201,

@Laurent - thanks for that solution! Turning off the UDP discovery also did the trick for me.  Began working right away!

I wanted to also add some interesting details from my experience.

I have a small raspberry pi cluster cluster and was running the driver on one of them.  From my laptop i was attempting to use the admin gui and failing to connect.  Since the laptop i am using is a work machine it has firewall set up and i assumed it was a firewall issue.  As a test of this i attempted to have a node connect to the driver from my laptop.  To my surprise it worked fine.

I looked at the config for the node, expecting to find that its default is to *not* do UDP discovery-  but, no, it also uses that.

So I guess that maybe the node is 'smart' enough to go ahead with the explicit host/port if they're in the config file (jppf-node.properties), but the admin gui isn't?

I'd be curious if anyone can explain the difference in behavior - I'd just like to understand.  It's working now, so I'm going to go and play with my raspberry pi cluster, but if anyone has a comment i'd be interested....

I am trying to run JPPF in kubernetes in minikube but the client does not connect to driver.
Deployed the driver and node pods.  Nodes are connected to the driver, as per logs
Deployed a client project, containing TemplateApplicationRunner, TemplateJPPFTask and the jppf.properties, node and driver properties file
The client runs and submits a job and never finishes and seems to not able to send a message or connect to the driver. There is no log
for the results
The driver and node logs show no sign of call from the client
 
The node and driver properties are copied from the project without any change

Hello,

Looking at the logs you provided, it looks like your admin console is configured to discover the driver through the built-in UDP multicast dsicovery mechanism.
I would suggest that you disable it (jppf.discovery.enabled = false) et configure the connection manually in the configuration file instead, as in this example:
